Yaptime!

Over the past few weeks, 5280 Agency brand ambassadors have been on the CU Boulder campus promoting Yaptime, a new location-based social networking tool. Yaptime allows Smartphone users to create a virtual "room" where they are, and others can join that room and interact via group texting. The friendly brand ambassadors introduced Yaptime using iPads, and created rooms all over campus and at popular locations in Boulder. They also gave away cool CU Boulder gear and Yaptime t-shirts. Yaptime will make an appearance at the CU football game on Saturday, where users can log on to talk about the game! Check it out on your Smartphone at Yaptime.com!

5280 Agency at Denver's Third Annual Hispanic Marketing Conference

On Sept. 15, 5280 Agency had the opportunity to attend Denver's third annual Hispanic Marketing Conference, held at St. Cajetan’s Center on the Auraria Campus. Young Hispanics are Denver's fastest growing market, and this conference focused on how to effectively reach them.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, two-thirds of the Hispanic population is under 35, and 82% of this group was born in the United States. They are the children of Hispanic immigrants, and most consider themselves bilingual and bicultural. While these Hispanics will become more acculturated over time and over generations, particularly in their purchasing behavior, Latino culture has symbolic meaning for them and they are not likely to leave it behind.

Director of Hispanidad Laura Sonderup used the term "the wink" to describe how advertisers and marketers can reference Latino culture without being stereotypical. One example would be to use a Spanish phrase or cultural reference in an English-language ad.

We were really fortunate to be able to attend this conference and take away a lot of valuable information and insights. The team at 5280 Agency is excited about developing our own Hispanic marketing program as we continue to grow as a full-service agency.

Small Planet E-Vehicles Create Buzz on Denver Streets

Small Planet's electric vehicles are a great solution to beating traffic, reducing pollution and staying in shape. They are also more economical than traditional transportation. For the cost of one gallon of gasoline at around $3.00, you can recharge your electric bike or scooter about 60 times at .05 cents each time. A fully charged battery can take you up to 25 miles. Therefore, 60 x 25 miles = 1,500 miles. Check out the video and see how E-bikes and E-scooters are just too much fun to resist.

What is a Brand Ambassador?

If you are asking yourself the question, “What is a Brand Ambassador” you are in the right place.

A Brand Ambassador is someone that represents a Brand in a positive way and carries the brand message out to the public.

The Brand Ambassador position has become more common as an official job because of the many outlets where a brand ambassador can promote the brand and where many people can discuss the brand.

Interview with Gina Dickerson - Featured Brand Ambassador

We were elated when Gina Dickerson stepped in at the last moment to execute a series of demos for Frei Brothers Wine in July, and we're so glad she did. Not only did we receive multiple compliments from her accounts, but Gina was one of our highest sellers for that week. We asked Gina to give us insight on her success and here's what she had to say:

How long have you been doing alcohol/wine promotions?
I have been "promoting" wines in my own business for over 10 years. Pairing them with specialty foods, chocolates, etc..

What keeps you motivated during a demo?
I enjoy the interaction with the guests and am motivated by really trying to exceed an expectation, finding a "perfect" fit for their need.

What was the key to your success at this demo?
I think the key to my success for this event was describing the flavor and "mouthfeel" of the wine.... really trying to anticipate how the consumer would be using the wine and emphasizing the wines' ratings.

What recommendations do you have for wine distributors/liquor stores to boost their sales from a brand ambassador perspective?

I recommend having as much information about the wine as possible, also offering samples of the wine. I strongly recommend offering a discount or coupon of "real" and immediate value as opposed to $1 off. This is not interpreted by the consumer as a real incentive to buy. And consumers actually voiced that to me during my events.

Maybe pairing the wine with a basket of cheese and a couple pears or at least a $3 discount. It would help if the liquor store also offered a discount. It would also be nice if the distributor used this opportunity to capture email addresses which would later translate into personal invitations to take advantage of their "private select" wines or personalized invitations to wine tasting events and or dinners and or tours.

Finally, some really "compelling" graphics of how the consumer uses the wine always helps. For example wine being poured into a glass to accompany a nice steak dinner. Emphasis should be placed on the wine as it leaves the bottle and pours into the glass. This is where the wine should look "compelling", delicious, inviting.... make the consumer say "I want that!".

I have lots of ideas!

How does it feel to be complimented by a client for your work?

It feels fantastic to receive the compliment and makes me want to work more closely with the distributor, maybe as a national spokesperson, or a trainer or at a corporate level to help market their product!

Thanks Gina and keep up the great work!

Product Recommendations Are Trusted Most in Person, Less Via Social Media

Effective experiential marketing that has a compelling consumer focus often leads to increased word-of-mouth for participating brands. Social media can be effective at facilitating WOM among youth, as it is integral in their lives and it does not lose impact like it does for adults.
